I also own hardware stuff like, MPCs, workstation keyboards (Triton, Fantom, Motif, etc), and various synths, rack samplers, drum machines. I've used Ableton (w/ various controllers) and other DAWs for years. Minimal setup, you just turn it on and get to work.

From browsing/loading sounds on the screens, to the knobs auto-assignment of synth parameters, to having all the sequencing functions right in front of you on the hardware with no menu 's feels like the best of both hardware and software worlds. Especially with Komplete, the integration is so tight.

Simply put, Maschine is the easiest, most full featured production system I've used.hands down. I was highly doubtful at first, then I bought Maschine and understood what the hype is all about. Save the critique till you've actually had the full Maschine experience. Honestly as a production tool, the Maschine controller works best with the Maschine software. For DJ stuff, the Serato and Traktor templates floating around are pretty powerful also. It's very similar to a Push in functionality. Thankfully I will be returning this thing as its garbage. You can use the controller pretty easily with Ableton by using the template that's in NI's controller editor or the $30 template from. The whole buy a "Maschine/MPC and become an amazing producer" idea pisses me off too. Its a midi controller thats simply tied down to the Maschine software.IE its just a product of some good software developers and a marketing team. I hate this thing because it tries to act like its hardware but its not. I'd HIGHLY recommend to avoid this thing, especially if the software is not involved. I simply wanted a decent midi controller that could trigger samples. Took me over an hour just to get this to even work with ableton and its still a pain to do anything with it. The really tried hard for people to not try to use this thing as a seems like a glorified quasi mpc but not to me. Thought I could use it as a midi controller (it does have nice pads), but without the maschine software its a brick. I just bought one without software from Sam Ash knowingly. Would you buy a synth such as a bass station 2 from novation, if the seller tells you "it makes no sound, but you can still use it as a midi controller" ? I think i would rather use a midi controller than something half-useless, but that's only my opinion.I guess you are right! Thanks for the replies, they really helped me make up mind! (Please check before if maschine's software accepts 2 controllers at one time).Įdit : Also, about using maschine without the software. If i were you i'd go for the mikro and the mk2 since you have great opportunities on them. That's where are all the strenghts, ease of use and charms of these products. I rather use a "generic" midi controller for random softwares, then the dedicated controllers for their dedicated softwares. I dunno man, i have a mpc renaissance and an arturia spark, they're dedicated controllers just like maschine, and they're midi controllers for other softwares as well.but when you use them as midi controller you get in the pain of mapping and some buttons are rendered useless.
